Ground Beef Gyros

I discovered this recipe on http://www.food.com/recipe/ground-beef-gyros-30081. It is a great recipe but I have eliminated/altered a couple ingredients to my tasting. Feel free to follow either recipe. This recipe is as close as it gets to homemade gyros. They are delicious and healthier for you. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Sauce:
1 (8oz) container plain yogurt
1/3 cup chopped, seeded cucumber
2 tbsp finely chopped onions
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tsp sugar

Filling:
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp black pepper

4 pita breads
1 large tomato; sliced
1 small onion; sliced

1. Preheat oven on Broil
2. In a bowl, combine first 5 ingredients
3. Cover and refrigerate
4. In a seperate bowl, combine ground beef and seasonings; mix well
5. Shape into 4 thin patties and place on a foil lined baking sheet with sides
6. Broil in an oven for 10-12 min. or until completely cooked through, and no longer pink, turning once.
7. Cut patties into thin slices
8. Fill pitas with meat and top with tomato, onion and yogurt sauce.
