Plum Sorbet
Plum Sorbet
by Jennifer Carlisle
It's August and it's plum season. A few plums I had in my fruit bowl were becoming ripe and I wanted to put them to good use. Here is what I made.
Ingredients:
4-5 ripe plums, pits removed (about 2- 2 1/2 cups)
1/4 cup sugar + 2 tbsp sugar
1 tablespoon orange juice
a pinch of salt
Cut up plums into wedges and remove the pits. Place the plums, sugar, orange juice and salt in a blender and puree until it becomes smooth. Pour plum mixture from the blender through a fine sieve into a bowl. Strain the plum mixture pressing it through the sieve to seperate the skins and chunks from the rest. Then take what is left in the bowl and pour into an ice cream maker and mix for 15-20 minutes. When done mixing place in an air tight container in the freezer and allow to freeze for 1-2 hours before serving.
*Makes about 2 cups of sorbet.
If you would like to make this an adult treat, add 1 tbsp of either Brandy or Grand Marnier just before churning it in the ice cream maker.
