Sweet Onion Turkey Sliders

Sweet Onion Turkey Sliders
by Jennifer Carlisle

These sliders are the perfect size and are packed with flavor. The onions are sauteed in honey barbeque sauce, with a shot of whiskey. And these mini turkey burgers are good just by themselves, but are so much better with these onions. Serve these with some potato chips or on a platter as an appetizer and people will be asking you where you got this wonderful recipe ;)
I hope you enjoy these delicious sliders!

Ingredients:
sliders
-1 tbsp butter
-1 tbsp olive oil
-1 lb. ground turkey
-1/4 tsp salt
-1/8 tsp black pepper
-1/8 tsp garlic powder
-a couple splashes of worchestershire sauce
-1 lightly beaten egg
-1 cup plain bread crumbs or 2 slices of toasted bread, broken into tiny crumbs (I used my hands, you can also use a food processor)

sweet Onions
-1 tbsp butter
-2 medium yellow onions or 1 large onion, sliced thinly
-1/2- 1 cup honey barbeque sauce
-1 shot whiskey

-enough Hawaiian rolls for each burger, sliced in half

I was able to make 10 burgers with this recipe.

Combine ingredients for the sliders. Heat pan with oils before making patties.

Form turkey meat into large meatball size patties and add to hot skillet. Cook through completely.

While burgers are cooking start onions. Cook onions until tender, add bbq sauce and whiskey bring to boil and simmer until ready to serve.

Two sliders on Hawaiian rolls.

Sweet Onion Turkey Slider

Directions:
In a medium bowl combine ground turkey, salt, pepper, garlic powder, worchestershire sauce, egg, and bread crumbs. Before you mix these ingredients, take a large skillet and heat the butter and oil in it over medium-high heat. Your hands will be pretty messy from mixing and forming the patties, that you will want to do this step ahead of time. Mix all of the ingredients well using your fingers (remove your rings/jewelry at this point). The mixture will be very, very messy, but once they are placed in the pan they will cook up well and won't be so sticky. The bread crumbs will help absorb some of that liquid that makes it so mushy, and the egg will help to bind the meat together to help the patties stay together. Once meat is mixed together, form into small patties about the size of a large golf ball, or about a 1/4 cup in size. If you'd like perfect measurements, use an ice cream scooper. Place patties in the hot pan and allow to cook for approximately 5-6 minutes or until browned on one side, then flip and cook on the other side. Adjust the heat as necessary, but make sure the patties are COMPLETELY cooked through, this is raw turkey meat we are working with.
While burgers are cooking, heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat, add butter and onion. Saute onions until tender, then add barbeque sauce and whiskey. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the burgers are done and ready to serve.
Serve sliders with onions on halved Hawaiian rolls or slider buns.
